Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
