Military Reserve Activated Before Countrywide Anti-Monarchy Rallies
Republican governors in several US territories have positioned National Guard personnel on readiness ahead of large-scale gatherings challenging Donald Trump and his initiatives.
Rally Size and Organization
Organizers of the "No Kings" initiative stated that gatherings are planned at more than 2,500 sites throughout the country.
As per rally organizers, the last No Kings event in June drew over five million attendees denouncing Trump's policy approach.
Local Actions
State leaders in the Lone Star State and Virginia have formally deployed their regional National Guard troops, though the degree of military visibility remains unknown.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott referenced the "planned far-left associated protest" as reasoning for mobilizing state forces.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin likewise directed mobilization of the state's National Guard contingent.
Partisan Reactions
Protest leaders characterized the gatherings as opposition to Trump's "autocratic tendencies."
"The administration thinks his rule is total," participants argue on their website.
"But in this country, we reject kings and we won't back down against turmoil, graft, and harshness."
Several Republicans have dubbed the demonstrations as "Unpatriotic" assemblies.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall allegedly commented before the rallies: "It's necessary to call out the National Guard."
"Ideally it'll be peaceful. I doubt it," he concluded.
Opposition Response
Liberal officials criticized the mobilization of military personnel.
Texas Democrat Gene Wu argued: "Dispatching equipped military personnel to suppress peaceful demonstrations is exactly what kings and dictators do — and Greg Abbott just demonstrated he's among them."
