"See all this effort. See this instance of ethnic cleansing," a fighter exclaims.

The fighter grins as he directs the video equipment on himself and his companion fighters, their paramilitary insignia visible: "They are all going to perish like this."

These individuals are rejoicing over a mass killing that relief organizations suspect claimed the lives of more than thousands of people in the Sudan's city of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

An Urban Center Severed from the Globe

Following their control of the urban area under siege for approximately an extended period, from August the paramilitary force advanced to strengthen its dominance and restrict the surviving civilian population.
