A senior Russian military figure has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The attack occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
Investigators stated that one theory under investigation suggests the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Location of the Incident
Personnel have been sent to the scene, which is reportedly in a south district of the metropolis.
Media coverage state the blast happened in a car park close to a residential building.
Series of Targeted Attacks
Since the onset of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This latest event echoes other notable incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a informant in the past connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.
The war has been marked by shadowy operations reaching into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death is still underway.
