Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
