The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer behind many legendary styles favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
