The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
