People have come together across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the UN and other world agencies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities postponed formal memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to review the conditions of the agreement.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the talks revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the morning session concluded without tangible results, due to differences over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "tough and have not yet achieve any significant progress," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the two sides.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war governance of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member endured the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location seems like home now and until each abducted person return none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about seventy percent of the population desire the war to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the east side district of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"When the evening comes, the fear appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"We are fearful of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including a trio killed in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said another two dead people had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli forces while looking for help to the southern area, medics reported.
